It is a learning center with a typical school structure in terms of working hours and academics coupled with co-curricular activities. Students who are unable to mainstream either by choice or by chance, need a platform to acquire minimum required educational qualification. The flexibility which they are looking for is found in the Open school.
Students who may be pursuing sports as their career for example, and unable to attend mainstream schools. Students who wish to choose their own subjects in grade 10 and grade 12, and not follow the mandatory five subjects as prescribed by schools. Students who wish to space out their subjects and write the five exams across a period of time as specified by the board. Students who desire to have the support of a scribe.
Students aspiring to complete grade 10 and grade 12 can do so through NIOS (National Institute of Open schooling) , a Government board. The academic support and guidance related to NIOS is given at Sattva. Students should be at least of 14 years of age to be able to register for the exam.
Students are assessed for their requirements and individual support is given ,based on an Individual Education Plan drawn for each student.
A child friendly, compassionate and patient teacher, with adequate communication skills , willing to go that extra mile to help the student. Sattva has a support system of professionals in this field. The regular interaction and discussions with them, participation in related workshops and seminars, with a focus on upgrading the respective learnings of the teachers , enables a refreshed and renewed approach to the teaching methods.
We do come across parents , whose children below 14 years are unable to settle in main stream schools. The reasons could be varied. Such children may have difficulties in Learning due to certain medically diagnosed conditions. Many of them blossom under individual and well planned care and support. At Sattva we provide a nurturing environment for such children and follow recommended strategies in helping the children progress. The various tools and teaching aids in special education enables this process. Such children can hope to mainstream in a year or two based on individual progress
All weekends from 2003 dedicated to teaching ABACUS program to children between 5-15 years of age, and this has been non –stop for the last 16 years and still at it.
Learning to draw and color helps develop focus and concentration. Art develops creativity.
Art teaches children patience, determination, accountability, teamwork. Art helps children to receive constructive criticism and to give positive feedback. Art is a therapy and is extremely healing.
